1. Wat Mahathat

Located within the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Wat Mahathat was one of the most important temples of the Ayutthaya period. It once enshrined sacred Buddha relics and served as the residence of the Supreme Patriarch.
Although destroyed after the fall of the kingdom, the ruins remain deeply impressive, featuring ancient prangs, colorful remnants of shrines, and the iconic Buddha head embraced by tree roots, now a symbol of Ayutthaya itself.

2. Wat Phra Si Sanphet

The former royal temple of the Ayutthaya Grand Palace, Wat Phra Si Sanphet was built around 1492 during the reign of King Ramathibodi II.
Its three beautifully restored chedis once housed the ashes of Ayutthaya kings, making this site one of the most sacred and historically significant landmarks in the city.

3. Wat Yai Chaimongkol

Originally known as Wat Pa Kaeo, Wat Yai Chaimongkol is famous for its towering stupa, built to celebrate a historic victory.
The temple complex features a majestic reclining Buddha and rows of serene seated Buddha images draped in saffron robes—an atmosphere of calm and spiritual elegance.

4. Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan

This magnificent riverside temple dates back to 1324, predating the founding of Ayutthaya itself.
Inside the ubosot stands a massive gilded Buddha image in the Sukhothai style, alongside cement and Naga-protected Buddha images—highly revered by both Thai and Chinese communities.

5. Wat Ratchaburana

Built in 1424 by King Borom Rachathirat II, Wat Ratchaburana is renowned for its central prang with exquisite stucco carvings.
The temple gained international attention after a famous treasure discovery within its crypt, revealing ancient gold artifacts, murals, and relics—now preserved as national treasures.

6. Bang Pa-In Royal Palace

Bang Pa-In Royal Palace is a stunning summer retreat dating back to the Ayutthaya era. Originally built by King Prasat Thong and later restored by King Mongkut (Rama IV), the palace blends Thai, Chinese, Khmer, and European architecture.
Highlights include the elegant Hem Montien Thewarat Pavilion, built in Khmer style to honor the palace’s founder.

Dress Code: Polite attire required. Shorts, sleeveless tops, and tank tops are not permitted. Cover-up clothing is available on site.

7. Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal

A unique cultural attraction where visitors can interact with elephants, feed them, take photos, and enjoy elephant rides around the historic area—an iconic Ayutthaya experience.
